XRP Price Nears Critical $1.05 Support as OI Falls to 6-Month Low

Point of Focus

  • XRP is testing critical support at $1.05-$1.06.
  • A break below it may open the door to a retest of the psychological $1.00 level.
  • OI has fallen to a six-month low, signaling a broad deleveraging event.

XRP (XRP) is once again approaching a pivotal technical level as the token trades just above the $1.05 support zone, with market sentiment remaining fragile amid weakening macroeconomic conditions and declining derivatives activity.

Ripple’s backed token fell roughly 1% over the past 24 hours to trade near $1.07, extending its recent consolidation as investors continue to rotate capital toward safer assets.

While XRP has avoided a sharp breakdown, the combination of falling open interest (OI), subdued institutional catalysts, and a strengthening US dollar suggests traders remain cautious about the asset’s short-term outlook.

With leverage being flushed out of the market, the next move could depend on whether buyers defend the long-standing $1.05 support level.

Macro headwinds weigh on XRP’s price

Unlike previous XRP selloffs that were largely driven by Ripple-specific developments, the latest weakness appears to be tied to broader macroeconomic conditions.

A stronger US dollar and rising Treasury yields have pressured the wider cryptocurrency market as investors reassess expectations for Federal Reserve policy. Risk assets, including altcoins, have struggled as traders reduce exposure amid a more defensive investment environment.

At the same time, XRP has lacked fresh ecosystem catalysts. While Ripple continues expanding its institutional payment infrastructure, there have been no major announcements regarding new enterprise partnerships or exchange-traded fund (ETF)-related developments capable of shifting market sentiment.

That has encouraged investors to rotate into assets with stronger momentum.

Open interest drops to a six-month low

Perhaps the most notable development is the sharp decline in XRP derivatives positioning.

Market data shows XRP futures OI has fallen to its lowest level in six months, reflecting a broad reduction in leveraged exposure rather than aggressive bearish positioning. The decline suggests traders are closing positions instead of opening new directional bets.

This deleveraging followed a wave of long liquidations after XRP failed to maintain upward momentum near resistance. Funding rates have also normalized, indicating that speculative enthusiasm has cooled significantly.

Historically, falling prices alongside declining OI often signals a market reset rather than outright capitulation. While this reduces the risk of a major liquidation cascade in the near term, it also indicates that buyers have yet to regain conviction.

Technical indicators remain cautiously bearish

Technical signals continue to favor the bears, although momentum is not overwhelmingly negative.

The relative strength index (RSI) remains below the neutral 50 level, indicating limited buying pressure without entering oversold territory. Meanwhile, the moving average convergence/divergence (MACD) continues to flash a mild sell signal, reinforcing the lack of bullish momentum.

The most important level to watch remains the $1.05-$1.06 support zone. XRP has repeatedly attracted buyers around this area since late June, making it a key psychological and technical floor.

A decisive daily close below $1.05 could expose the token to a retest of the $1.00 level, while a recovery above $1.10 would represent the first sign that bulls are regaining control.

Regulatory uncertainty and whale activity remain risks

Beyond technical factors, investors continue monitoring regulatory and onchain developments.

Lingering legal uncertainty surrounding Ripple, combined with reports of large XRP transfers to exchanges by whale wallets, has added to short-term caution. Large exchange inflows are often interpreted as potential selling activity, although they do not always translate into immediate market pressure.

At the same time, XRP has underperformed Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) over recent sessions, suggesting capital continues flowing toward assets benefiting from stronger institutional narratives.

Unless buyers successfully defend the $1.05 support level and derivatives positioning begins to stabilize, the token is likely to remain range-bound with downside risks still in focus.
