The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has begun accepting Solana-powered payments for tournament buy-ins, marking the first time in the tournament series’ history that players can enter events using cryptocurrency.
The payment option, powered by crypto payments firm MoonPay, launched at this year’s WSOP summer series in Las Vegas. Players can use SOL and Solana-based stablecoins to pay tournament entry fees without the processing charges typically associated with card-based transactions.
The partnership goes beyond branding by integrating blockchain-based payments into tournament entry and settlement workflows.

WSOP said the integration is designed to modernize how players move funds into tournaments, particularly for its international participant base.
According to WSOP CEO Ty Stewart, the organization sees similarities between the fast-paced nature of poker and the technology behind Solana’s network. The partnership also makes Solana the presenting sponsor of the 2026 WSOP season.
The tournament series has awarded more than $4 billion in prize money since its founding in 1970 and operates approximately 50 events worldwide. The scale of the WSOP makes it one of the most visible deployments of blockchain-based payments in competitive poker.

The partnership will expand later this year at WSOP Paradise in the Bahamas, where tournament winners will have the option to receive payouts in stablecoins on Solana.
Solana Foundation Chief Product Officer Vibhu Norby said the goal is to reduce friction around moving money into and out of tournaments. MoonPay Commerce President Jim Walker said the payment system is designed to support faster cross-border settlement for players traveling between jurisdictions.

The payout option expands the partnership beyond tournament registration. International players who cash in events will be able to receive winnings in Solana-based stablecoins when the feature launches at WSOP Paradise.
Crypto companies have spent years pursuing visibility through sports and entertainment sponsorships. The WSOP partnership adds a payment layer to that strategy by bringing crypto transactions into tournament operations.
WSOP’s stablecoin payout option is scheduled to debut at WSOP Paradise in the Bahamas in December 2026, extending the Solana integration beyond tournament registration and into prize distribution.
