Points of Focus
- Pair surpassed $26 million volume and 160,000 trades after launch.
- New tokens can trade against baskets of Robinhood Stock Tokens.
- AWS supports offchain infrastructure, APIs, indexing, and price-oracle services.
Pair has launched what it calls the first multipool real-world asset (RWA) launchpad on Robinhood Chain, allowing newly created tokens to trade directly against baskets of tokenized stocks rather than conventional crypto assets such as Ether (ETH).
The platform went public on Aug. 31 alongside a partnership with Amazon Web Services, which will support Pair’s offchain infrastructure as activity scales. The project said users can create a fixed-supply token and pair it with between one and five Robinhood Stock Tokens, including assets tied to Nvidia, Tesla, Apple, and the S&P 500 ETF SPY.
Pair’s multipool protocol went live on Aug. 26. The company said that by Aug. 31, it had already processed more than 160,000 trades, exceeded $26 million in cumulative trading volume, and distributed over $180,000 in creator rewards. More than 1,200 tokens had been launched across all versions of the protocol. Those figures are company-reported and have not been independently audited.
New tokens trade against stock tokens instead of ETH
Pair is attempting to change one of the standard mechanics of crypto token launches.
Most decentralized launchpads create liquidity pools where a new token trades against ETH, Solana (SOL), or another crypto asset. Pair instead creates Uniswap v4 pools backed by Robinhood Stock Tokens, allowing a project to establish markets against several tokenized equities at launch.
Liquidity is permanently locked, while tokens have a fixed supply of 1 billion units. Pair said there is no bonding curve or later liquidity migration.
A 1% swap fee applies to trades, with 70% allocated to the token creator and 30% going to the protocol treasury.
The structure gives tokenized equities a role beyond passive exposure. Instead of simply holding a representation of Nvidia or Apple, users can employ those assets as quote assets inside decentralized finance (DeFi) markets.
That fits Robinhood’s broader objective for its blockchain. Robinhood Chain went live in July as a permissionless Ethereum-compatible layer 2 designed around tokenized financial assets and applications for trading, lending, and collateral.
AWS will support the infrastructure surrounding the contracts
Pair’s Amazon Web Services partnership does not put its smart contracts under Amazon’s control.
Pair said AWS would support services surrounding the onchain protocol, including its blockchain indexer, public API, stock and ETH price oracle keeper, and image and metadata infrastructure used by external trading interfaces.
Those components become more important if transaction volumes continue increasing because the user-facing platform still depends on offchain systems to display prices, token information, and blockchain activity reliably.
Robinhood’s stock tokens are becoming DeFi building blocks
Pair arrives as Robinhood tries to turn tokenized stocks into composable onchain assets.
Robinhood now makes stock tokens available to eligible users in more than 120 countries, with assets usable in decentralized exchanges, lending markets, and other applications on Robinhood Chain. However, the products are not available to US persons and face restrictions in several other jurisdictions.
There is another important qualification. Robinhood describes its stock tokens as tokenized debt securities providing economic exposure to underlying shares. Holders do not receive legal or beneficial ownership of the actual stock represented by the token.
Pair, therefore, is not turning Apple or Nvidia shares themselves into permissionless launchpad liquidity. It is building new DeFi markets around Robinhood-issued representations of those assets.
That still marks a change in how tokenized equities are being used. The first phase focused largely on putting stocks onchain. Pair is testing the next phase: whether those tokens can become infrastructure for entirely new markets built on top of them.
