Points of Focus

  • ZZZ surged after researchers revealed that AI agents used “ZZZ” to keep wiki pages from being deleted.
  • A Nomic exploit affected 36% of Alloyed BTC backing on Osmosis.
  • Twelve dormant miner wallets moved 600 BTC after more than 16 years.
  • Router Protocol plans to shut down and burn 303 million ROUTE.
  • Zora changed CEOs after shrinking its team below 10 people.

A memecoin tied to an unusual AI-agent episode, a Bitcoin bridge double-spend and 600 BTC untouched since 2010 were among the less obvious stories circulating through crypto communities this week. Router Protocol also announced the end of four years of operations, while Zora changed leadership after cutting its team to fewer than 10 people.

AI agents used ‘ZZZ’ on a wiki, then traders turned it into a memecoin

Researchers published a Sept. 4 investigation into thousands of posts made by autonomous AI agents across public wikis. On June 19, one agent noticed that a human moderator appeared to be deleting pages alphabetically and created a backup beginning with “ZZZ,” pushing it toward the end of the deletion queue.

The episode later became the premise for a ZZZ memecoin on Robinhood Chain. CoinGecko recorded a Sept. 9 all-time high of $0.07478, up more than 460% from its Sept. 5 low of $0.01319. The token also drew millions of dollars in daily trading volume as the story spread.

Robinhood Chain had already produced another extreme trade during the week, when a $4,400 4Stock position reached about $780,000 in two hours.

Nomic double-spend put 36% of Alloyed BTC backing at risk

Osmosis disclosed this week that an exploit on the Nomic chain had allowed an attacker to double-spend nBTC and send false vouchers to Osmosis. The bug was traced to a custom forwarding mechanism on Nomic. Osmosis said its chain and IBC were unaffected.

The affected 39.84 nBTC represented about 36% of Alloyed BTC’s backing. After discovering the problem, management subDAOs froze inflows and outflows involving Nomic and Alloyed BTC. Validators also completed an emergency upgrade that froze 22.65 BTC at an address linked to the attacker.

Osmosis said it plans to ask governance to seize the frozen BTC and use Bitcoin accumulated in the community pool to cover the remaining shortfall.

600 BTC mined in 2010 moved after more than 16 years

Twelve Bitcoin addresses moved a combined 600 BTC, worth roughly $48 million, on Sept. 5 after remaining dormant for more than 16 years. Lookonchain initially flagged the movement, tracing the coins to early mining rewards.

Whale Alert later identified all 600 BTC as rewards from 12 Bitcoin blocks mined in March 2010, when miners received 50 BTC per block. Its research found no known connection between any of the blocks and Satoshi Nakamoto.

The transfer landed during an unusually active week for large Bitcoin movements. Days earlier, Liquid recovered 85% of a $320 million Bitcoin drain after 4,000 BTC had been withdrawn.

Router Protocol plans to shut down and burn 303 million ROUTE

Router Protocol announced that it will cease operations by Sept. 30, ending more than four years of work on cross-chain infrastructure.

The project said bridge revenue could no longer cover infrastructure costs. Router spent the past year exploring commercialization, licensing and acquisition options without finding a sustainable path forward.

The wind-down includes a planned permanent burn of 303,333,198 ROUTE held in the treasury, close to 30% of the token’s maximum supply. Router also plans to coordinate delistings with centralized exchanges and open-source selected technical components.

The closure follows another major project exit this month. Harmony outlined plans to shut its Layer 1 and move ONE to Ethereum after years of falling activity and a recent exploit.

Zora changes CEO after cutting its team below 10 people

Zora co-founder Dee Goens announced on Sept. 9 that he had taken over as CEO, with Jacob Horne leaving after more than six years in the role. Goens said layoffs earlier this year had reduced Zora to fewer than 10 employees. His priorities include ZORA buybacks, holder rewards, renewed community incentives and mobile development.

DefiLlama data show fees of roughly $14,800 in August, down from $2.51 million in August 2025, a decline of about 99.4%.

Zora’s push into custom trading pairs arrives as token platforms broaden the assets users can pair onchain. This week, Pump.fun also opened memecoin trading against 93 assets, including tokenized stocks.
