Crypto wallets have spent a decade as passive signing tools. MetaMask is now making the case that they should become autonomous execution layers, and the company is opening the first 200 spots to prove it.
Consensys launched MetaMask Agent Wallet on June 8, 2026, giving AI agents self-custodial access to swaps, perpetual futures, prediction markets, and liquidity provisioning across 25 or more Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible blockchains, including Hyperliquid. The rollout is limited to an initial cohort, with a broader public release planned for later this summer.

The architecture is built around a simple principle: Agents can trade, but users keep control. Users connect an AI agent, define spending limits, grant permission to specific protocols, and set a risk profile before the agent begins executing. The agent stays inside those parameters at all times. Adjusting the rules requires human input. The agent cannot override them.
Every transaction runs through MetaMask’s full security stack, including mandatory dry-run simulation, Blockaid threat scanning, and maximal extractable value protection before it settles onchain. Transactions that pass those checks are covered by Transaction Shield, MetaMask’s new premium security subscription, which guarantees against loss up to $10,000 per month for deemed-safe transactions at $9.99 per month or $99 annually.
The product is currently available via command-line interface for accepted participants rather than through the familiar browser extension. Selected early access users receive free access, direct contact with the build team, and direct input into the product roadmap before general availability this summer.

Eligible interactions include token swaps on verified decentralized exchanges, perpetual futures positions, prediction market contracts, liquidity provider positions across supported decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, and staking, covering most of the active DeFi surface area a professional trader would need.
MetaMask describes the full-capability mode as “Beast mode,” allowing agents to operate across the entire permitted range simultaneously while remaining within user-defined rules.
MetaMask is not alone in this race. Coinbase launched its Agentic Wallets product on Feb. 11, 2026, with non-custodial architecture and programmable guardrails, while Cobo’s Agentic Wallet uses MPC security and policy-bounded execution for institutional clients. The infrastructure layer is converging fast.
What MetaMask brings to the competition is scale. Consensys counts over 30 million monthly active users and more than 100 million total users on the MetaMask platform, giving Agent Wallet a distribution runway that purpose-built competitors cannot easily match.
The company has also committed to supporting x402, Coinbase’s open agentic payments standard, signaling interoperability rather than a walled-garden approach.
The agentic wallet market is projected to grow from $5.4 billion in 2024 to $236 billion by 2034 as enterprises and individuals increasingly delegate financial decisions to autonomous software.
MetaMask’s early access launch, arriving the same week as Travala’s AI-powered hotel booking via USDC (USDC) and Virtuals Protocol’s $700-million Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol migration, suggests the agentic economy is moving from concept to infrastructure faster than most predicted.
