Digital Garage has launched the commercial rollout of DG Stablecoin Payment Service, or DG SPS, as it looks to bring stablecoin payments into existing payment networks in Japan. The service will first be deployed to JCB and Digital Garage subsidiary DG Financial Technology, using APIs to connect stablecoin payments with established merchant infrastructure rather than requiring separate blockchain systems at each location.
That approach gives DG SPS access to a sizable distribution base. DGFT supports more than 1.3 million payment locations and processes ¥9.1 trillion annually, while JCB reports a global network of about 72 million merchants and ¥53.4 trillion in yearly transaction volume. Digital Garage hasn’t disclosed how many locations will enable DG SPS at launch, so those figures represent potential network reach rather than current stablecoin acceptance.

DG SPS brings USDC into existing payment networks
Digital Garage said payments will begin with USDC on Base, with JPYC, Ethereum and Polygon planned later. Its API model places much of the technical work at the payment-provider level, while merchants can add stablecoins without blockchain-specific hardware or major workflow changes.
The rollout follows a January 2026 partnership between Digital Garage, JCB and Resona Holdings, then a physical-store pilot announced in February. JCB also signed an MOU with Circle on July 14 to explore USDC-based cross-border transfers and stablecoin payments at Japanese merchants.
DG SPS targets x402 AI agent payments
DG SPS is also being designed to support x402, an HTTP-based payment protocol governed by the Linux Foundation’s x402 Foundation. The protocol lets software, including AI agents, receive payment requirements and authorize payments programmatically. The Linux Foundation launched the body on July 14 with 40 members, including Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, Google, AWS and Cloudflare.
Circle reported on Aug. 5 that 99.3% of x402 agent-payment volume settled in USDC, while its Agent Stack hosted more than 900 paid services. That makes USDC a relevant starting rail for Digital Garage’s agent-payment plans.
Merchant adoption remains the key unknown. Digital Garage hasn’t disclosed when x402 support will go live or how many of DGFT’s 1.3 million-plus locations will enable DG SPS first.
