Coinbase announced three AI agent products spanning payments, trading, and software development, extending its effort to build financial infrastructure for autonomous software. The rollout adds merchant payment acceptance, new AI trading controls, and a developer toolkit for integrating agent payments.
The releases connect merchant payments, trading tools, and developer infrastructure into a broader AI agent ecosystem, allowing businesses, users, and developers to operate within the same payment framework.
The internet has new users.
They don’t sleep, they don’t click, and now they can pay, trade and build.

Beginning this week, Coinbase Business customers can accept USDC (USDC) payments from AI agents through Coinbase Payments using the x402 open payment standard. Businesses can receive, reconcile, and cash out payments from a single account, while eligible idle USDC balances earn rewards of up to 3.35%, according to Coinbase.
The launch comes one month after Coinbase Business marked its first anniversary. Since launching in June 2025, the unit has signed about 5,000 customers and processed roughly $1 billion in combined payments and trading volume, according to Coinbase Business head Siddharth Coelho-Prabhu.
Coinbase also expanded Coinbase for Agents, its Model Context Protocol (MCP) interface introduced last month.
New features include live order monitoring, streaming order books, real-time price feeds, and conditional trading commands that let users instruct agents in natural language while keeping execution within predefined guardrails.
Instead of manually monitoring markets, users can create instructions such as buying an asset after a price decline or cancelling an unfilled order after a set period. Coinbase said the tools use the same WebSocket market data available to institutional trading desks.
Coinbase Developer Platform also introduced an x402 SDK that enables APIs, MCP servers, and web services to accept agent payments with minimal code. The SDK packages wallet infrastructure, payment middleware, and recommended extensions that developers previously configured separately.
The release builds on Coinbase’s broader x402 initiative, which revives the HTTP 402 “Payment Required” status code to enable automated stablecoin payments over the web. Coinbase said the protocol is designed for both human users and autonomous software, allowing programmatic USDC payments without traditional checkout flows.
The rollout also arrives after Coinbase reported that AI agents generated more traffic than human users on Base developer documentation for the first time last month. Early commercial usage has largely been concentrated among digital infrastructure providers, according to Coinbase executives. Coinbase said early adopters already use AI agents to purchase services such as cloud computing, domains, and developer credits, while adoption among mainstream merchants is still developing.
