XRP Price Falls by 8% Despite 11-Week ETF Inflow Streak

Point of Focus

  • XRP is holding around $1.40 as whale accumulation recovers after late-August outflows.
  • Daily XRP Ledger transactions remain strong above 2 million.
  • A confirmed break above $1.40 could bring $1.46 into focus.

XRP (XRP) is holding near the psychologically important $1.40 level as renewed whale accumulation, elevated network activity, and rising derivatives exposure strengthen the case for a short-term breakout.

The token has settled into a range between $1.35 and $1.45 after retreating from its August peak of $1.70.

Although momentum has cooled since that rally, recent market data suggests that selling pressure from large holders may be easing.

Whale flows turn positive again

CryptoQuant’s 30-day moving average (MA) for XRP whale flows shows that accumulation has strengthened in September after turning mostly negative toward the end of August.

Whale inflows had supported XRP’s advance above $1.20 and later $1.40 before the trend reversed around Aug. 26. That shift produced average daily outflows of about 3 million XRP and coincided with an increase in transfers to exchanges.

The latest recovery in whale flows indicates that large holders are rebuilding their positions. If sustained, this could reduce the amount of XRP reaching exchanges and help the token defend its current support zone.

XRP Ledger activity also remains healthy. Daily transactions have stayed above 2 million through early September, while active accounts and payments continue to hold at elevated levels. This suggests that the latest price move is occurring alongside persistent network usage.

ETF demand slows but remains positive

Institutional demand provides another layer of support, although weekly flows have weakened sharply.

Spot XRP exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded cumulative net inflows of $1.68 billion, while assets under management surpassed $1.48 billion.

However, weekly inflows fell by 83% to $19 million in the week ending Sept. 5, down from $110.5 million.

The slowdown removes some momentum from the bullish case, but the funds are still attracting capital rather than recording net outflows.

This means ETF demand remains supportive, even if it is no longer accelerating at its previous pace.

XRP’s price needs a confirmed $1.40 breakout

Analyst Ali Martinez identified a descending triangle on XRP’s hourly chart and said a confirmed close above $1.40 could open the way toward $1.46.

Derivatives positioning offers modest support for that scenario.

Total XRP futures open interest climbed by 0.8% over four hours to $3.13 billion, including increases across Binance, CME, and Hyperliquid.

Still, XRP must turn $1.40 into firm support before targeting $1.46.

Failure to hold the level could return attention to the lower end of its recent range near $1.35, while a confirmed breakout would signal that buyers have regained short-term control.
