Point of Focus

  • XRP holds above $1.40 and all three major daily EMAs.
  • Fading bearish momentum supports a potential move toward $1.50.
  • A daily close above $1.90 could reopen the path toward $2.

XRP (XRP) is trading near $1.415 on Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, holding above $1.40 as technical momentum improves and activity on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) strengthens.

The token’s position above its major exponential moving averages (EMAs) suggests the broader market structure remains constructive despite recent volatility.

However, mixed momentum indicators and resistance around $1.50 mean buyers have more work to do before XRP can challenge $1.90.

XRP holds above major moving averages

XRP remains above its 50-day EMA near $1.302, its 100-day EMA around $1.267, and its 200-day EMA at approximately $1.355.

This alignment gives bulls several layers of potential support. The 200-day EMA represents the first important downside level, while the $1.302-$1.300 area combines the 50-day average with horizontal support.

A drop through that cluster could expose the 100-day EMA at $1.267. Below there, the psychological $1 level represents a more distant structural floor.

For now, the ability to maintain $1.40 indicates that buyers continue to absorb selling pressure following the token’s recovery from its post-CLARITY Act decline.

Momentum improves, but a breakout is not confirmed

XRP’s relative strength index (RSI) sits near 56, placing it above neutral territory without signaling overbought conditions. That reading points to moderate bullish momentum and leaves room for further gains.

The moving average convergence/divergence (MACD) remains slightly negative, however. While bearish pressure appears to be fading, the indicator does not yet confirm a forceful bullish trend.

This divergence suggests XRP may continue consolidating unless buying volume accelerates. A move above $1.50 would provide an initial sign that bulls are regaining control, potentially opening the path toward the $1.70 area.

The more decisive technical barrier sits near $1.90. XRP would need a daily close above that resistance to establish a stronger bullish extension and bring $2 back into focus.

Short squeeze and XRPL activity support price

Recent gains followed a derivatives squeeze that forced traders holding short positions to buy XRP. About $2.02 million in shorts were liquidated within one hour on Sept. 15, helping the token break through the $1.38-$1.40 region.

The recovery has also coincided with increased network activity. XRPL processed more than 2.34 million transactions in the 24 hours through Sept. 18, while payment volume reached approximately 1.16 billion XRP.

Meanwhile, the Batch V1.1 amendment is expected to activate on Sept. 29 if validator support remains above the required threshold. The upgrade will allow users to bundle multiple transactions into a single operation.

These catalysts reinforce the recovery narrative, but the technical outlook remains conditional: Holding $1.355 protects the bullish structure, while clearing $1.50 would strengthen the case for a test of $1.90.
