Point of Focus
- XRP must break above $1.50 to reopen the path toward $1.70.
- It trades above major moving averages, but the golden cross remains unconfirmed.
- Losing $1.35 support could trigger a pullback toward $1.28.
XRP is approaching a decisive technical test after recovering sharply from its August low, with traders now watching whether the token can break above $1.50 and confirm a broader trend reversal.
Ripple-backed token traded near $1.42 after rebounding from $1.00 on August 18 to an intraday high of $1.6996 four days later. Although XRP has surrendered part of that nearly 70% advance, it remains above its 50-day and 200-day simple moving averages.
That positioning points to stronger price momentum, but it does not mean XRP has completed a golden cross.
The bullish signal only occurs when the 50-day moving average crosses above the 200-day moving average. For now, the shorter-term average remains below its longer-term counterpart.
XRP needs to clear $1.50 to target $1.70
The $1.50 area represents XRP’s most immediate resistance. The token has repeatedly struggled around this level, making a daily close above it essential for extending the recovery.
Technical indicators identified $1.44 to $1.46 as the first decision zone. A close above $1.46 could bring $1.50 to $1.52 into play, while a confirmed breakout may allow XRP to retest its August high near $1.70.

A sustained move beyond that peak could shift attention toward the $2 level. However, failure to clear $1.50 would leave XRP vulnerable to another pullback.
Initial support sits around $1.35, followed by the former resistance zone near $1.30. A breakdown below these levels could expose $1.28 and potentially the stronger demand area around $1.20.
Such a decline would also delay the prospective golden cross. Because moving averages rely on previous closing prices, a series of weaker sessions would pull the 50-day average lower and prevent it from overtaking the 200-day measure.
Golden cross would confirm, not cause, the rally
XRP’s current setup resembles aspects of its 2025 rally, when a golden cross appeared during the token’s advance from approximately $2.20 to $3.60.
However, the indicator confirmed momentum that had already developed rather than triggering the rally. Golden crosses lag behind price because they require weeks of strong closing levels before the shorter moving average can move above the longer one.

The distinction matters for investors considering the signal as an entry point. XRP can remain above both averages temporarily and then fall below them without producing a golden cross.
Momentum indicators currently offer cautious support to the bullish case. XRP’s daily relative strength index stands near 53, showing improving demand without entering overbought territory.
Macro events could decide XRP’s next move
Three major events over five days could determine whether XRP breaks through resistance or retreats toward support.
The US consumer price index report arrives on September 11, followed by the Senate’s CLARITY Act cloture vote on September 15 and the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate decision on September 16.
The CLARITY Act vote carries particular relevance for XRP because it could advance legislation defining the regulatory treatment of digital assets. However, cloture would only open floor debate rather than secure the bill’s final passage.

Meanwhile, XRP’s market structure has shown signs of institutional participation. CME’s share of XRP futures open interest increased from roughly 10% in mid-August to 17%, even as positions declined across other trading venues.
US-listed XRP funds have also extended their inflow streak, accumulating around $1.69 billion overall. This shift toward regulated products may provide structural support, but it cannot guarantee a breakout.
For now, $1.50 remains the level separating XRP’s consolidation from another attempt at $1.70. Until the token clears that barrier and the moving averages complete their crossover, the anticipated trend reversal remains unconfirmed.
