XRP (XRP) is trading under renewed pressure as investors navigate a combination of macroeconomic uncertainty, weakening technical momentum, and anticipation surrounding the upcoming US House hearing on the CLARITY Act scheduled for July 17.
The token recently slipped toward $1.07, extending a broader cryptocurrency market decline triggered by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and renewed concerns that inflation could remain elevated for longer.
Despite several positive developments, including Ripple’s expansion in Europe under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework and growing institutional use of the XRP Ledger, price action has remained subdued.
Instead, traders appear focused on two near-term catalysts: the July 14 US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report and the congressional hearing that could shape the future regulatory framework for digital assets in the US.
The latest decline has been driven less by XRP-specific news than by a broad shift toward risk-off positioning.
Escalating military tensions between the United States and Iran pushed crude oil prices sharply higher, reviving fears that inflation could prove more persistent than expected. Rising energy prices have increased speculation that central banks, particularly the Federal Reserve, may keep interest rates elevated for longer, reducing appetite for speculative assets, including cryptocurrencies.

As a result, XRP largely moved in tandem with Bitcoin and the wider crypto market.
Trading volume increased by roughly 50% to more than $1.1 billion, suggesting the sell-off was accompanied by meaningful participation rather than simply thin liquidity. At the same time, XRP failed to reclaim the important $1.10-$1.12 resistance zone before breaking below support.
Onchain data has also weakened.
Large whale transactions exceeding $1 million dropped from around 70 transactions per week to just two, removing an important source of buying pressure that had previously helped stabilize the market during periods of volatility.
Attention is now shifting toward Washington.
On July 17, the US House Financial Services Subcommittee will hold a field hearing in New York titled “Building the Future of Finance: How the CLARITY Act Unlocks Innovation.” The hearing will examine legislation designed to establish a comprehensive federal market structure framework for digital assets.
The proposal would largely divide oversight between the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), providing clearer definitions for cryptocurrencies operating as digital commodities versus investment contracts.

For XRP, the stakes are particularly high.
Although Ripple secured a landmark legal victory when a federal court ruled that XRP itself is not a security in secondary market transactions, that interpretation has not yet been fully codified through legislation.
Supporters of the CLARITY Act argue that statutory recognition of payment-focused digital assets could significantly reduce regulatory uncertainty and encourage greater institutional participation.
Several policymakers, including Senator Cynthia Lummis and CFTC Chair Michael Selig, have warned that the current congressional session may represent the best opportunity to pass comprehensive crypto market structure legislation before the end of the decade, increasing the importance of this summer’s legislative calendar.
Until lawmakers provide greater clarity, however, institutional investors appear reluctant to materially increase exposure.
From a technical perspective, XRP remains under pressure.
The token continues trading inside a descending channel and below its key short-term moving averages, reinforcing the broader bearish trend. Immediate resistance remains clustered around $1.10-$1.12, while the next significant support sits near $1.07.

A decisive break below that level could expose XRP to a retest of its yearly low around $1.01, with the psychological $1.00 mark becoming the next critical area for buyers to defend.
There are, however, a few signs that selling momentum may be becoming stretched.
The relative strength index (RSI) has fallen toward oversold territory, suggesting bearish momentum could be losing strength. Meanwhile, long lower candlesticks indicate buyers continue stepping in around major support levels, although demand has not yet been strong enough to reverse the prevailing trend.
