XRP (XRP) is entering a decisive phase as speculative activity surges across derivatives markets, while technical indicators point to growing downside risks. The token has struggled to reclaim the $1.20 level despite a recent rebound, and traders are increasingly relying on leverage to bet on the next major move.
According to CryptoQuant data, Binance’s estimated leverage ratio for XRP has climbed to 0.1899, its highest reading of 2026. The increase comes as XRP trades near $1.17-$1.20, a zone viewed as the last major support before a potentially deeper correction.
The combination of elevated leverage, weakening onchain activity, and deteriorating technical structure has left XRP at a critical crossroads.
While bullish catalysts continue to emerge from institutional adoption and exchange-traded fund (ETF) inflows, macroeconomic pressures and bearish chart patterns threaten to outweigh those positives in the near term.
The latest jump in Binance’s estimated leverage ratio suggests traders are becoming increasingly aggressive despite the lack of a clear bullish breakout.
For much of 2026, the metric remained between 0.15 and 0.18, reflecting relatively controlled derivatives exposure. The recent climb toward 0.19 coincided with XRP’s rally toward $1.24 before another rejection, indicating that traders used leverage to chase upside momentum.

Historically, rising leverage can amplify gains during rallies, but it also increases the risk of rapid liquidations when prices move against crowded positions. With XRP failing to establish support above $1.20, the market has become vulnerable to sharp volatility in either direction.
A return of the leverage ratio below 0.15 would indicate that traders are reducing risk exposure. Until then, derivatives activity continues to outpace spot-market demand.
Onchain metrics paint a more complicated picture.
Data from Santiment shows XRP’s social volume surged sharply during late May and early June, reaching some of the highest levels seen in the past six months. However, active addresses have remained largely unchanged, hovering around 28,300 over the same period.

The divergence suggests that interest in XRP is being driven more by market narratives and speculation than by growing network usage. Such discrepancies often emerge during periods of heightened volatility when traders focus on short-term price action rather than underlying fundamentals.
While social engagement can fuel temporary rallies, sustainable price appreciation typically requires stronger user activity and transaction growth across the network.
Broader market conditions are also weighing on XRP.
The US Federal Reserve’s recent hawkish stance has strengthened the US dollar and pushed Treasury yields higher, prompting investors to reduce exposure to risk assets, including cryptocurrencies. The resulting risk-off environment has pressured high-beta digital assets and encouraged deleveraging across futures markets.
Despite these challenges, institutional interest in XRP remains relatively resilient. Spot XRP ETFs have continued recording net inflows, even as other digital asset products experienced redemptions. Ripple has also expanded enterprise adoption through partnerships and infrastructure upgrades designed to improve network scalability.
However, those long-term developments have so far been insufficient to offset near-term macroeconomic pressures.
The most important level for XRP remains the $1.17 support zone.
On the weekly chart, XRP recently fell below a long-term symmetrical triangle pattern, creating a bearish technical setup that projects a potential downside target near $0.73. The token has also been rejected multiple times by a descending trendline that continues to cap recovery attempts.

Momentum indicators remain weak. The weekly relative strength index (RSI) sits near oversold territory and remains below its descending resistance trendline, signaling that bearish momentum is still dominant.
If bulls can successfully defend $1.17 and reclaim the broken trendline, the bearish outlook could be invalidated. However, a confirmed weekly close below support would likely strengthen the case for a deeper decline toward the $0.93-$0.73 range.
With leverage at its highest level of the year and key technical support under pressure, XRP’s next weekly close could determine whether traders see a relief rally or the start of a much larger breakdown.
