Ripple has taken a major step toward expanding XRP-powered payment infrastructure in emerging markets after investing in African fintech giant Flutterwave’s Series E funding round.
The strategic partnership, which values Flutterwave at $3.2 billion, will integrate Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin, XRP Ledger (XRPL), and Ripple Payments network into one of Africa’s largest payment ecosystems.
The deal represents one of Ripple’s most significant real-world payments initiatives to date, bringing blockchain-based settlement technology to a platform that has processed more than $50 billion in payments across the continent.
While XRP’s (XRP) price has recently experienced volatility around the $1.20 level, the partnership strengthens Ripple’s long-term utility narrative by embedding its technology into high-volume cross-border payment flows.
The partnership is structured around three core components designed to improve payment efficiency across Africa and beyond.
Flutterwave will integrate Ripple’s USD-backed stablecoin RLUSD into its payment rails and Send App remittance network, using it as a settlement asset for high-volume transaction corridors.
The company will also leverage the XRP Ledger to accelerate transaction clearing and settlement times while connecting its domestic payments infrastructure with Ripple Payments through a unified API.
Big news! 🌍🚀@Ripple has made a strategic investment in Flutterwave as part of our Series E fundraising round.
We’ve spent years building our stablecoin infrastructure and today it’s live commercially with select merchants.

The integration aims to address longstanding challenges in African cross-border payments, including high transaction costs, foreign exchange inefficiencies, and settlement delays that can often take several days.
Ripple managing director for the Middle East and Africa Reece Merrick said stablecoins are becoming increasingly important for modern payment infrastructure.
“Flutterwave has built one of the most advanced payments networks in Africa, and as its infrastructure evolves, stablecoins are becoming central to that story,” Merrick said.
Flutterwave founder and CEO Olugbenga Agboola described the investment as a pivotal moment in the company’s evolution toward digital asset-enabled payments.

The partnership will help expand Flutterwave’s stablecoin payments roadmap while creating a more direct connection between African commerce and global financial markets.
“This investment marks a pivotal moment in our journey, enabling us to significantly scale our infrastructure and expand our stablecoin-enabled payments roadmap,” Agboola said.
The company has already begun rolling out stablecoin infrastructure with select merchants and is piloting the technology within its Send App, suggesting the initiative goes beyond a funding announcement and includes active deployment plans.
The agreement further expands the real-world use cases for Ripple’s blockchain infrastructure.
While RLUSD will serve as the primary settlement asset in many payment flows, the XRP Ledger will operate as the underlying blockchain network facilitating faster transaction processing and settlement.
Proud to share that @Ripple has made a strategic investment in @theflutterwave.

For Ripple, the deal strengthens the role of XRPL as an enterprise-grade settlement layer for international payments, particularly in regions where traditional cross-border payment systems remain costly and inefficient.
The partnership also reinforces Ripple’s broader strategy of positioning blockchain technology as infrastructure for global payments rather than solely a cryptocurrency investment vehicle.
The Flutterwave announcement comes as XRP attempts to maintain momentum above the important $1.20 level. XRP recently surged to an intraday high of $1.29 before retreating to around $1.22 as traders locked in profits.
Institutional interest remains strong, with XRP-linked exchange-traded funds (ETFs) attracting $10.7 million in inflows during the week ending June 12, bringing cumulative inflows to nearly $1.44 billion.

Meanwhile, wallets holding at least 1 million XRP now control 74.1% of the token supply after accumulating an additional 1.53 billion tokens over the past six months.
Although enterprise partnerships do not always translate directly into increased demand for XRP, the Flutterwave deal provides one of the clearest examples yet of Ripple’s technology being deployed at scale within a major payments network.
