Points of Focus

  • Solana trades near $101 after reclaiming $100, with futures open interest at $6.77 billion.
  • SOL futures volume hits $10.10 billion, nearly 10x the $1.02 billion spot volume.
  • Solana ETFs take in $9.14 million as a whale buys $9.74 million of SOL, while RSI tops 80.

Solana (SOL) traded near $101 on Thursday, holding above the $100 mark after closing at $102.08 on Aug. 26. The move came alongside heavy derivatives activity, with CoinGlass showing futures open interest at $6.77 billion and 24-hour volume at $9.95 billion. The scale of that positioning makes leverage an important part of SOL’s latest move back into triple digits.

Solana’s price holds $100 as futures activity climbs

The derivatives build-up matters because futures turnover is running at almost 10 times CoinGlass-tracked spot volume. CoinGlass recorded about $1.02 billion in 24-hour spot volume alongside the $10.1-billion futures figure, showing much heavier activity in futures markets as SOL holds above $100.

SOL has also moved quickly. Investing data shows the token rose 5.65% on Aug. 26, from a $96.62 open to a $102.08 close, after touching $102.32. Thursday’s hold over $100 keeps SOL above the breakout level, with the $102-$103 area back in focus for buyers.

Momentum has become stretched after the advance. According to CoinLore, SOL’s 14-day relative strength index (RSI) stood at 80.26 on Aug. 27, above the 70 level commonly associated with overbought conditions. Its daily data puts the 10-day simple moving average (SMA) near $93.12, about 8% below the current price.

SOL spot demand offsets rising leverage risk

The rally also has support outside futures markets. Solana spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded $9.14 million in net inflows on Aug. 26, their seventh straight positive session, according to SoSoValue. Cumulative net inflows reached about $1.26 billion, providing a spot-demand counterweight as derivatives exposure rises.

A large wallet purchase added another data point. Lookonchain tracked a wallet that returned after roughly two years of inactivity and bought 95,928 SOL worth about $9.74 million on Aug. 27. The same address previously completed two profitable SOL swing trades with $4.95 million in combined gains.

The $9.74-million purchase equals roughly 1% of CoinGlass-tracked 24-hour spot volume, so the wallet alone doesn’t establish broader demand. Wednesday’s $102.32 high remains the nearest upside reference, while SOL traded as low as $95.18 during the Aug. 26 session.
