Points of Focus

  • Ethereum trades near $2,655 after ETF flows reversed $830 million in a single week.
  • The 10-day and Hull moving averages turn bearish for the first time in this series.
  • ETF net assets are up 69% since mid-August, but inflows are up only 21.7%.

Ether (ETH) is trading at $2,654.95 at the time of writing, down 1.23% intraday after a session range of $2,635.35-$2,702.15.

That pullback comes even as US spot ETH exchange-traded funds (ETFs) just posted their sharpest weekly reversal in this series, swinging from a $140-million net outflow to a $689.88-million net inflow in seven days.

The moving average (MA) stack has cracked at its fastest-reacting layer for the first time this month for Ethereum, even as the broader structure holds. Both developments point to the same underlying tension: whether Ether’s rebound off last week’s lows can hold, or whether short-term momentum is already running out.

Ether ETF flows reverse $830 million in a single week

US spot ETH ETFs posted a net outflow of $140 million during the week of Sept. 15-18, per SoSoValue’s weekly data, driven largely by two large single-day withdrawals: $224.11 million on Sept. 16 and $141.47 million on Sept. 15.

The following week, Sept. 19-25, reversed into a $689.88-million net inflow, an $829.88-million swing that is the largest one-week reversal in the 15-week window this series has tracked, wider than the $699.44-million swing recorded between Aug. 14 and Aug. 21.

Daily prints across the most recent week were consistently positive: $143.80 million on Sept. 18, $269.98 million on Sept. 21, $162.31 million on Sept. 22, and $104.63 million on Sept. 23, before tapering to $66.01 million on Sept. 24, and $86.95 million on Sept. 25.

Total net assets across the complex reached $17.78 billion by Sept. 25, up from $17.5 billion on Sept. 23 but still below the $17.92-billion peak recorded on Sept. 22.

ETH price technicals turn bearish at the fast-reacting layer

The moving average (MA) stack has fractured at its fastest-reacting edge. The 10-day exponential moving average (EMA) and the nine-day Hull MA sit above the spot price, a downward signal on each.

Every moving average from the 20-day through the 200-day, both exponential and simple, remains below spot and holds an upward signal, so the broader trend structure has not broken even as short-term momentum has turned.

The relative strength index (RSI) reads 59.32, neutral and still short of overbought territory. The moving average convergence/divergence (MACD) level sits at 84.14, a downward signal because it trades below its signal line, extending a stretch in which MACD has lagged the rest of the stack throughout this series.

Momentum also shows a downward signal at 45.23, while the average directional index (ADX) reads 43.95, neutral, confirming a trend is in place without signaling fresh acceleration either way.

What a close above $2,690 or below $2,602 means for Ether’s price

The classic pivot table puts resistance at $2,748.31, about 3.52% above spot, and pivot support at $2,284.54, about 13.95% below spot, both levels unchanged across an extended stretch of sessions in this series.

A close back above the 10-day averages and the Hull line, roughly the $2,660-$2,690 band, would flip the fast-reacting layer back to an upward signal and put the stack fully aligned for the first time since early September.

Failure to reclaim that band, or a resumption of ETF outflows, would put the rising 20-day EMA near $2,601.74 back in play as the next test.

Ether ETF net assets grow faster than fresh capital is arriving

The scale of the recovery is worth separating from how much of it is new money. Total net assets have climbed 69.0% since Aug. 14, to $17.78 billion from $10.52 billion, while cumulative net inflows over the same six weeks are up only 21.7%, to $13.94 billion from $11.45 billion.

That gap means most of the asset growth reflects Ether’s price appreciation on existing holdings rather than fresh capital entering the funds.
