Ethereum Stalls Near $2.4K as ETF Inflows Fall to $11M

Points of Focus

  • Ethereum holds above $2,500 as every moving average confirms the breakout.
  • US spot ETH ETFs added $1.24 billion in net inflows over three weeks.
  • MACD remains the only indicator still showing a downward signal on Ethereum.

Ethereum (ETH) is trading at $2,516.04 at the time of writing, up 1.59% intraday after a session high of $2,533.48, comfortably clearing the $2,500 level it was approaching in the prior piece in this series. Every moving average (MA) in the stack, from the fastest to the slowest, remains an upward signal on TradingView’s technical summary.

US spot ETH exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have added $1.24 billion in net inflows over the past three weeks, from SoSoValue’s weekly data. That headline figure hides a sharper story underneath: the streak nearly broke entirely before a single trading day reversed it.

Ethereum ETF inflows top $1.24 billion, but one day did the work

SoSoValue’s weekly figures show $824.4 million for the week of Aug. 24-28 and $218.4 million for Aug. 31-September 4, both already reported in earlier pieces in this series. The week of Sept. 8-11 added $197.1 million, keeping the three-week total at $1.24 billion, though the pace looks steadier from a distance than it was up close.

The first three days of that week actually netted negative $19.3 million, a stretch that looked set to extend the outright outflow reported previously. September 11 alone then added an estimated $216.4 million, the single largest daily addition since the late-August rally.

Trading volume across the ETF complex backs up that this was a real reversal rather than a quiet rebalancing: the week of Sep. 8-11 turned over $5.14 billion, up from $4.08 billion the week before and the highest weekly total in a month.

Total net assets rose from $15.57 billion to $16.31 billion over the same week, a $740 million increase that outpaces the $197.1 million in net inflows, meaning most of that gain reflects Ethereum’s price appreciation on existing holdings rather than new money entering the funds.

Ethereum price technicals hold steady, but MACD keeps lagging

The moving average (MA) stack remains unanimous: ETH sits above the 10-day through 200-day averages, plus the 9-day Hull average at $2,510.88, all signaling upward. The average directional index (ADX) has held in a narrow band, from 50.24 to 48.75 and now 49.80 across the three sessions tracked in this series, suggesting the trend has stabilized rather than weakened.

The moving average convergence divergence (MACD) level remains the one exception, reading 79.37 and still showing a downward signal because it sits below its signal line. That reading has fallen steadily across the same three sessions, from 94.78 to 86.26 to 79.37, meaning the gap to its signal line has been narrowing even though the direction has not yet flipped.

Bull Bear Power shows why these tags need careful reading rather than being taken at face value. Its action reverted to neutral at 47.34, even though that reading is far higher than the 3.96 that carried an upward signal two sessions ago, a reminder that the tag reflects trend and zero-line context rather than the size of the number alone.

What Ethereum needs to test $2,748 or fall back to $2,285

The classic pivot table puts resistance at $2,748.31, about 9.2% above spot, and support at the pivot point itself, $2,284.54, about 9.2% below spot. Those exact levels have now shown up unchanged across four consecutive sessions tracked in this series, confirming a data quirk in the pivot calculation rather than a fresh signal worth restating each time.

A close above $2,748 with ETF inflows extending beyond this week’s rebound would put the moving average stack and institutional demand pointing in the same direction for the first time since the deceleration began in late August. The next ETF weekly flow data comes after the Sep. 18 close, the first data point covering a potential second straight week of reaccelerating inflows.
