Point of Focus
- Zcash (ZEC) surged more than 20% above $1,300.
- Nearly 2.4 million ZEC participated in the NU7 governance poll,
- ZEC broke above the key $1,250 level, putting $1,375 in focus.
Zcash (ZEC) surged more than 20% on Sept. 16, breaking above $1,300 and sharply outperforming a broader cryptocurrency market hit by renewed selling pressure.
The privacy coin climbed as high as $1,385 on Sept. 16 after opening near $1,110, before easing to around $1,337. The move represented a daily gain of roughly 20% and extended a rally that has pushed ZEC up around 130% over the past month.
Unlike much of the wider market, Zcash had a network-specific catalyst behind the move. Holders overwhelmingly backed cutting the blockchain’s target block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds as part of the upcoming Network Upgrade 7 (NU7).
Unlike much of the wider market, Zcash’s rally coincided with a network-specific development. Holders overwhelmingly backed cutting the blockchain’s target block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds as part of the upcoming Network Upgrade 7 (NU7), although the timing alone does not establish that the vote drove ZEC’s price gains.
Nearly 2.4 million ZEC participated in the governance poll, representing roughly two-thirds of the approximately 3.6 million eligible coins at the voting snapshot.
Zcash holders overwhelmingly back faster blocks
Around 99.9% of participating ZEC supported reducing target block times to 25 seconds, potentially cutting the average wait for a first transaction confirmation by two-thirds.
The change would increase the frequency at which new blocks are produced without accelerating ZEC’s long-term issuance. The proposal includes adjustments designed to preserve the network’s existing monetary schedule despite faster block production.

Holders separately voted overwhelmingly to maintain Zcash’s Bitcoin-style halving model. Around 98.9% supported keeping the existing schedule rather than moving toward a smoother reduction in new coin issuance.
The governance process also reflected Zcash’s privacy focus. Only coins held in the Ironwood shielded pool were eligible, with encrypted ballots allowing economic weight to be counted without publicly exposing individual balances or identities.
The vote does not immediately change the network. Developers must still implement and test the selected features before they can be included in NU7.
ZEC bucks broader crypto selloff
The governance results arrived as Zcash separated sharply from weakness across the wider crypto market.
Bitcoin and several major altcoins faced selling pressure following the failed CLARITY Act vote in the US Senate, while ZEC emerged as one of the strongest-performing large-cap cryptocurrencies.
The rally also builds on a dramatic recovery that began in August. ZEC traded near $500 in mid-August before accelerating through $800 in early September and eventually reclaiming $1,000 for the first time in roughly a decade.
Plans to integrate the Ironwood shielded pool with Ledger hardware wallets have provided another network-specific development, potentially making Zcash’s privacy features more accessible to hardware-wallet users.
Zcash price breaks above key $1,250 level
The latest rally pushed ZEC through the $1,250 technical pivot before price tested resistance around $1,375.
Momentum indicators remained strong during the breakout. The daily Average Directional Index stood near 54, well above the 25 level typically associated with a strong directional trend.

On the four-hour chart, ZEC also broke above Supertrend resistance near $1,206, flipping the indicator bullish and moving its support toward $1,128. Chaikin Money Flow climbed into positive territory, indicating stronger buying pressure during the advance.
However, the rapid rise has left ZEC trading significantly above several short-term support zones.
$1,500 is next ZEC test
The immediate question is whether Zcash can consolidate its gains after moving through several overhead liquidity clusters during the rally.
A sustained hold above $1,250 would keep $1,375 in focus. A decisive move beyond that level could bring the psychologically important $1,500 area into play, followed by potential resistance around $1,625.

On the downside, losing $1,250 could expose the $1,125-$1,128 region, where previous resistance and four-hour Supertrend support converge.
ZEC’s strong divergence from the broader market gives the latest rally more substance than a typical altcoin spike.
But with the token already up sharply over the past month, whether the NU7 catalyst can sustain momentum will depend on buyers defending the breakout as developers turn the governance result into an actual network upgrade.
