Points of Focus

  • Bitcoin reclaimed $76K at $76,516.12 despite $746.3 million in two-day ETF outflows.
  • The Fed raised rates 25 bps to 3.75%-4.00%, while its 4.1% year-end median points to another hike.
  • Glassnode’s $76.7K True Market Mean sits just above spot, testing whether demand can recover.

Bitcoin (BTC) reclaimed $76,000 and traded at $76,516.12 at the time of writing on Thursday despite $746.3 million in US spot Bitcoin ETF outflows over Sept. 15-16 and the Federal Reserve’s first rate hike since July 2023.

Bitcoin has recovered above $76K, but negative realized-cap growth and heavy futures activity leave limited evidence that spot demand has broadly returned. Glassnode’s $76.7K True Market Mean still sits just above price.

Bitcoin absorbs $746M ETF outflows near $76K

Spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $450.4 million in net outflows on Sept. 15 and another $295.9 million on Sept. 16, according to Farside data. BlackRock’s IBIT accounted for $144.1 million of Wednesday’s withdrawals, while ARKB and FBTC lost $84.4 million and $52.7 million.

ETF redemptions weren’t the only source of pressure. CryptoQuant contributor Darkfost reported that short-term-holder exchange inflows jumped from 19,400 BTC to 33,100 BTC after the Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act in a 49-50 vote on Sept. 15.

Of that total, 23,200 BTC reached exchanges at a loss, the largest such short-term-holder capitulation event in a month. Bitcoin’s recovery after that supply reached exchanges suggests buyers absorbed a burst of loss-driven selling, though the data doesn’t identify who provided that demand.

Bitcoin trades below $76.7K cost basis after Fed hike

The Fed raised its target range by 25 basis points to 3.75%-4.00% on Sept. 16. Its September projections put the median year-end 2026 federal funds rate at 4.1%, up from 3.8% in June, implying another quarter-point increase if the median path holds.

Glassnode placed Bitcoin’s True Market Mean at $76,700, the average acquisition price of economically active supply. The firm said Realized Cap growth ended a 27-day positive streak on Sept. 15, while the unfinished Sept. 16 reading was also negative when its report was published.

At $76,516.12, BTC has reclaimed the round-number level but remains just below that onchain cost basis. That leaves the recovery below a level that marked the lower edge of Bitcoin’s recent trading range.

Leverage also remains large relative to spot activity. CoinGlass showed about $52.1 billion in Bitcoin open interest and $70.0 billion in 24-hour futures volume, compared with $4.53 billion in tracked spot volume.

That gap leaves room for derivatives positioning to amplify short-term moves without confirming that spot demand has fully returned. Glassnode’s next major onchain cost basis below $76.7K is the short-term-holder level at $71,300.
