Bitcoin Reclaims $64K as ETFs Snap 3-Day Outflow Streak With $137M Inflow

Points of Focus

  • Bitcoin trades near $64.15K after a $137.3M spot ETF inflow ended three straight outflow sessions.
  • Monday’s inflow recovered about 55% of the $248.4M withdrawn from Aug. 12 to Aug. 14.
  • BTC is testing its 20-day average, while futures volume remains more than 15 times spot volume.

Bitcoin has reclaimed $64,000, but Monday’s ETF inflow offset only part of last week’s withdrawals. BTC traded near $64,150 on Tuesday, up about 1.3% over 24 hours.

The question is whether renewed ETF demand can produce enough spot buying to extend the recovery, or whether the rebound remains driven mainly by derivatives.

Bitcoin ETFs recover 55% of the three-day outflow

US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $137.3 million in net inflows on Aug. 17, according to Farside Investors. The move followed outflows of $61.1 million on Aug. 12, $131.1 million on Aug. 13 and $56.2 million on Aug. 14, a combined $248.4 million drain.

Monday’s inflow recovered about 55% of the $248.4 million withdrawn over the previous three sessions. Fidelity’s FBTC led with $111.9 million, more than 80% of Monday’s total, while ARKB added $14.2 million and Morgan Stanley’s MSBT drew $11.2 million.

The reversal supports Bitcoin’s move back above $64,000, but one fund supplied most of the fresh capital. Even after Monday’s inflow, the previous three-session outflow still leaves a $111.1 million gap.

Bitcoin’s $64K rebound remains derivatives-heavy

Bitcoin’s move above $64,000 came alongside heavy futures activity. CoinGlass data showed about $47.17 billion in 24-hour BTC futures volume and $48.36 billion in open interest, compared with roughly $3.03 billion in spot volume.

That puts futures turnover at more than 15 times spot trading. ETF inflows add fresh spot demand, but short-term trading remains heavily skewed toward derivatives. A sustained move above $64,000 would carry more weight if spot volume strengthens alongside futures activity

BTC price tests its 20-day moving average

BTC’s 20-day moving average stands at $64,147, according to Barchart, putting the current price almost exactly at the short-term trend level. The 50-day average sits lower at $63,440, while the 14-day Relative Strength Index is near 50.1, a neutral momentum reading.

Bitcoin is back above $64,000 and its $63,440 50-day average, but the broader technical hurdle remains higher. The 100-day moving average stands at $68,946.
