Bitcoin Falls to $83K Despite $3B ETF Inflows as $84K Breakout Fails

Points of Focus

  • Bitcoin trades at $83,161 after slipping back below $84,000.
  • US spot Bitcoin ETFs drew $2.98 billion across seven straight inflow sessions.
  • Glassnode marks $84,000-$85,000 as a major long-term holder supply zone.

Bitcoin (BTC) slipped to $83,161.24 on Monday after another attempt to hold above $84,000 faded, leaving a sharp contrast between price action and almost $3 billion of recent US spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) demand.

The pullback suggests ETF buying is still absorbing supply, but it hasn’t been strong enough to force a clean break through the zone where older holders are sitting on profits.

Bitcoin ETF inflows slow as BTC loses $84,000

US spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted about $2.98 billion over seven consecutive trading sessions from Sept. 17 through Sept. 25, according to SoSoValue data. The latest week alone brought in $2.39 billion, the strongest weekly total of 2026.

The more useful signal sits inside the daily numbers. Inflows fell from about $999 million on Sept. 21 to $134.47 million on Sept. 25, an 87% decline in pace even though every session remained positive. Bitcoin rose above $87,000 early in the week, then gave back part of that move as fresh ETF demand cooled.

That weakens the idea that the headline inflow total should translate into an immediate breakout. The funds are still buying, but the marginal demand arriving each day has become smaller.

Bitcoin faces $84,000-$85,000 holder supply

Glassnode identified the $84,000-$85,000 area as the largest nearby cluster of long-term-holder supply. Its Sept. 23 research placed the next major on-chain resistance near $96,700, while the True Market Mean around $77,000 remains a deeper support reference.

Bitcoin moving back below $84,000 puts that supply zone in focus again. Buyers have to absorb coins from holders positioned around the same area before the failed breakout can regain traction.

Crypto analyst Ali Martinez offered a bullish counterpoint on Sept. 25. In an X post, he noted that Bitcoin has posted positive October returns in 10 of the past 13 years and said another strong month remains possible if the seasonal pattern holds.

Seasonality doesn’t resolve the current resistance issue, but it shows why the pullback hasn’t erased the bullish case. ETF demand remains positive, while Bitcoin is still trading close to Glassnode’s $84,000-$85,000 supply band.

Bitcoin derivatives keep downside risk active

CoinGlass data shows about $54.45 billion in Bitcoin futures open interest, with $41.98 billion in 24-hour futures volume versus $3.26 billion in spot volume. That leaves enough leverage to magnify a move if the price escapes the current range.

For now, $84,000 remains the first level Bitcoin needs to recover. A sustained failure below that supply band would keep Glassnode’s $77,000 True Market Mean as the deeper structural reference.
